Bio – Dr. Jeannette Moore

Dr. Jeannette Moore retired in July 2024 as Professor of Animal Science. She was honored with the Alumni Distinguished Undergraduate Professor title in 2008.  She taught and mentored undergraduate and graduate students and served as the Director of Undergraduate Programs for Transfer Students and Study Abroad in the Department of Animal Science.  She received her Ph.D. (1987) and M.S. (1983) degrees in Animal Nutrition from the University of Arizona, Tucson and her B.S. degree in Animal Science from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (1980).

After a post-doc position at North Carolina State University (1990), Dr. Moore joined the Animal Science faculty in a 100% teaching appointment (Visiting Assistant Professor, 1992) and later became Director of Undergraduate Programs for the Department of Animal Science (1997) and Assistant Professor (1998); she was promoted to Associate Professor in 2004 and Professor in 2011.

Dr. Moore was the sole Director of Undergraduate Programs for the department (now with over 800 undergraduates) from 1997 until 2013, at which time the duties were divided among three people.  She chaired the departmental Undergraduate Education Committee through 2013, and chaired the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) Courses and Curricula Committee twice. She chaired the N.C. State University Courses and Curricula Committee in the past.  Dr. Moore served as Chair of the NC State University Faculty from 2015 to 2017.

Dr. Moore’s professional affiliations included Alpha Zeta, the American Society of Animal Science (served on the Undergraduate Education Committee), Gamma Sigma Delta (Past President of NCSU chapter), North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture (past President; past Membership Director; past Southern Region Director and past chair of the Teacher Recognition Committee), National Block & Bridle (past President), and Phi Kappa Phi.

Her professional accomplishments included receiving the Fellow Award from the American Society of Animal Science (ASAS, 2021), the ASAS Distinguished Teacher Award (2020), the North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture (NACTA) Murray Brown Leadership Award (2015), the CALS at NCSU Board of Governors Award for Excellence in Teaching (2013), the NACTA Southern Regional Outstanding Teacher Award (2011), the NACTA Teacher Fellow Award (2001), being inducted into the Academy of Outstanding Teachers at N.C. State University (2001), and receiving the CALS Outstanding Faculty Advisor Award in 1998. She was honored to receive the Alumni Distinguished Undergraduate Professor award and title in 2008 from North Carolina State University.
